"What I Was Thinking"

If you knew what I was thinking
would you hate me?
Would you shun or love
or bother to ask why
my thoughts are what they are?

If you knew what I was thinking
would you blame me?
Would you lie to you
and tell me the same?

If you knew what I was thinking
would you agree?
Would the thought push us
down a path we don't want to go
because if you knew
we would have to face it?

There is One Who knows
what I am thinking
and loves me anyway.

The sea lifts up its voice
And screams its weakness.
Toss, crest, strain, break.
The waves announce their defeat.

The Lord is mighty,
mightier even than the sea.
Who am I,
to shudder before the ocean
and know the Lord
is far greater?

I am the sea,
I am the tempest-tossed,
I am the broken,
the defeated, and the lost.

Reign over me, Lord,
take my waves and
run me to your shores,
where your throne is
above all and
I am far below.
